RESEARCHER AND CONSERVATIONIST
Gemma is a marine biologist, having completed an MRes in Marine Sciences at the University of Portsmouth. Her passion has always been elasmobranch conservation and aims to change public misconceptions about sharks. She has carried out research projects on elasmobranch egg-case diversity and distribution around Jersey based on citizen science data, alongside a social science study on recreational blue shark fisheries around the UK. She currently works as a Marine Invertebrate Taxonomist at Marinescope Taxonomy Ltd. Gemma is also a BSAC Ocean Diver and has taken part in several blue shark research trips.
Gemma is keen to get stuck into science communications with MARECO to help engage new audiences and highlight the importance of conserving marine megafauna around the UK.
