What is legacy giving?

Legacy giving (also known as planned giving in the US) means leaving a gift to a charity in your will or estate.​ It’s a way to make a meaningful impact - without affecting your finances during your lifetime.

Types of legacy gifts

There are several ways to include MARECO in your will:
- A residuary gift – a % share of your estate after other gifts have been made
- A index-linked pecuniary gift – a fixed sum of money, index-linked
- A specific gift – an item such as property, shares, or equipment

In the US, these are commonly referred to as bequests within “planned giving” programmes. Some donors may also choose to give through beneficiary designations (such as retirement accounts or life insurance).

How to leave a gift

Leaving a gift in your will is straightforward. You can:
1. Speak with your solicitor about including MARECO
2. Choose the type of gift that’s right for you
3. Let us know your intentions (optional, but helpful)
